Make a difference

We’re currently seeking sponsors to support sound, artists, and venues. You can sponsor a show for $450, $1,000, or $2,500—or contribute at a level that works for you.

Why sponsor?

For centuries, the performing arts have enchanted audiences, relying on public support to thrive. From symphonies to ballets, these art forms have endured because of a shared desire to preserve the classics. But there’s another tradition—one just as essential and vibrant: rock and roll.

Who shows up?

  • 45–350 people per show

  • Mostly 16–35, but not exclusively

  • You’ll see:

  • kids at their first show

  • people who’ve been going to shows for 20 years

  • families, friend groups, regulars

People drive in for it:

  • from Modesto and the surrounding valley

  • from the Bay Area

  • from Sacramento

It’s not a closed loop. It pulls.

Artists

  • Bands from all over the West Coast

  • Touring acts from outside the U.S. (from Canada and England to Uruguay)

  • Artists who are already on the road choose to stop here

They know what they’re walking into:

  • a room that’s set up right

  • people actually paying attention

Some nights it’s dead quiet. Some nights it’s a party. Both are good.

What’s Going On Here

This isn’t about “supporting the arts” in the abstract.

It’s one of the few places where people can:

  • show up without spending $300 on a ticket

  • see something current, DIY, non-homogenized

  • meet people outside their usual circles

This is important because right now:

  • too much interaction happens online-only

  • there aren’t many low-barrier places to gather

  • people don’t always feel tied to where they live

What It Leads To

You start to see the same pattern over time.

People who come through spaces like this tend to:

  • know how to talk to people they don’t already know

  • learn how to collaborate at younger ages, a skill that people often don’t pick up til much later

  • stay engaged in what’s happening locally

They’re the ones who stick around and build things.

What Sponsors Are Backing

  • A place people actually show up to

  • A reason for younger crowds to stay engaged locally

  • A scene that brings people in from outside the region

  • Something that makes downtown feel used in the best way possible

What Support Covers

  • Sound + production

  • Paying bands fairly

  • Bringing in touring artists to connect with local ones

  • A nice, healthy meal and a stay, if needed (two things Modesto has dialed in— radical generosity and hospitality)

Where It’s Going

  • Consistent shows people can count on

  • A scene that grows and builds vibrancy into our city

  • An anchor for Central Valley youth who need to believe that their hometown can serve what they crave— not just something to do, but a culturally fertile place to grow and plant roots

“The fact that OFF THE AIR is back was a huge ‘pro’ on my ‘pros and cons’ list when I was considering moving back to Modesto from Los Angeles. Since I got here and started going to shows, I’ve met people who came in from Oakland, Sacramento, and Berkeley just to check it out. OFF THE AIR makes me proud to call Modesto home once again, and it helps to think about how it could grow when I start missing LA.” Travis Vick, OTA musician and Modesto resident.

“Growing up with OFF THE AIR was something my friends and I could do instead of going out and getting into trouble. It gave us a safe space to have fun. We met so many people from surrounding towns and made lifelong friendships. It exposed me to tons of music that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own, but seeing the bands live made me love them! I would purchase CDs, and it felt cool seeing local people play these shows!” OFF THE AIR is so important for the Modesto community; it keeps the downtown area alive, supports local artists, and is just plain FUN! I hope to see it stick around for many years to come!!” Brenna Andrade, Modesto.
